Orthodontic treatment is not uniform anymore.

Within the treatment we can distinguish new treatment categories. There are treatments which are limited to the anterior teeth and they are called cosmetic orthodontic treatments. Conventional orthodontic treatments will still concentrate on dental and bone measurements and will want to fix some norms. The newest treatment category is the one that aspires to deal with not only the smile and bite, but also with the origin of the problem. This new category will be called Functional Orthodontics. Functional orthodontics will put into practice rules like appropriate treatment directions (airway focused treatments), the lightest forces and teamwork with those specialties that are responsible for the functional balance of the body. Therefore, Functional Orthodontics will be part of Craniofacial Functional Medicine and will strive for achieving functional body balance.
